Burkart Philipp (born February 8, 1925 in Pirna ; † March 9, 2015 ) was a German chemist ( macromolecular chemistry , polymer chemistry ).

Life

Philipp studied chemistry at the TH Dresden from 1947 with a diploma in 1950 and a doctorate in 1952. He was a member of the TH Dresden a. a. with Kurt Schwabe . From 1953 he was senior assistant at the Institute for Fiber Research of the German Academy of Sciences in Teltow- Seehof, where he dealt with cellulose- based synthetic fibers . In 1956 he completed his habilitation at the TH Dresden and gave lectures there. From 1965 to 1971 he also taught as a professor at the TH Magdeburg . In 1971 he became professor for polymer chemistry at the TU (previously TH) Dresden. From 1969 he was director of the Institute for Fiber Research (later renamed Institute for Polymer Chemistry) of the Academy of Sciences of the GDR. In 1981 he was dismissed as director of the institute for political reasons, but reinstated in 1990 under pressure from institute staff. He was involved in setting up the Max Planck Institute for Colloids and Interfaces in Teltow-Seehof.

In 1993 he received the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class of the Federal Republic of Germany. In 1994 he received the Hermann Staudinger Prize .
