Burnayevskaya Mosque

The bornay mosque ( Russian мечеть Бурнаевская , Tatar Борнай мәчете Bornay mäçete , Bornay Mosque ) also mosque the third Cathedral ( Третья соборная ), located in the Russian city of Kazan in the Republic of Tatarstan .

The mosque was built in 1872 by order of the merchant Mukhametsadik K. Burnayev (1826–1898), the architect was PI Romanov. It was built on the site of an old wooden mosque from 1799, which burned down. In 1895 the minaret was added. The architecture of the brick mosque in the style of the so-called National Romanticism uses eclectic medieval Tatar and Russian elements.

At the end of the 1930s, as a result of a decision by the Central Executive Committee of the Republic of Tatarstan , the mosque was closed, and it was only in 1994 that it became accessible again to the faithful.
