Burns Bachelors' Club

Burns Bachelors' Club is a cottage in the Scottish village of Tarbolton in the Council Area of South Ayrshire . In 1971 the structure was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

history

The building dates from the 17th century. In 1780 the carpenter John Richard owned the house. That year the Scottish poet Robert Burns founded a debating club there with six other people . A year later, Burns was introduced to Freemasonry there . In 1938 the building became the property of the National Trust for Scotland . They restored it and opened it to the public in 1951. In 1971 the roof was renewed.

The building stands at the confluence of Montgomerie Street and Sandgate Street in the center of Tarbolton. On the north-facing front there are two simple wooden entrance doors on the right and in the middle. The club's badge is attached above the middle one. On the left is a small, square lattice window with a shutter. There are two windows on the upper floor. At the back of the building, an external staircase leads to the upper floor. Two windows are installed on the gable side. The building closes with a thatched pitched roof . Two gable chimneys rise from this.
