Burns Cottage

The Burns Cottage is a residential building in the Scottish city of Alloway in the Council Area South Ayrshire . It is the birthplace of the poet Robert Burns . In 1971 the structure was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

history

The building dates from 1737. Even before his wedding, it was owned by William Burnes , Robert Burns' father, because he was building the southern part of the house around this time. The stables and barn, however, were only built after the wedding. Robert Burns was born in Burns Cottage in 1759. With the onset of visitor interest in Burn's birthplace in the 19th century, it was converted into an inn and structural changes were necessary. With the establishment of a museum by the Burns Monument Trust towards the end of the century, the building was restored to its original state to the best of its knowledge.

description
