The Vejce massacre ( Macedonian Масакрот кај Вејце ) was a war crime during the Albanian uprising in Macedonia in 2001 . The massacre took place on April 28, 2001 near the western Macedonian town of Vejce , in the Šar Planina northwest of Tetovo , and was ambushed by Albanian rebels from the paramilitary organization UÇK against police officers and specialists from the Macedonian army .

Albanian rebels of the paramilitary organization KLA attacked during the ethnic conflict between Albanians and Macedonians in 2001 , the Hummer of the Macedonian armed forces with rifles and anti-tank weapons, killing eight soldiers. After an exchange of fire, the Macedonian soldiers tried to withdraw. One soldier was shot, the others fell into the hands of the KLA. Some soldiers were burned alive, others were killed with knives and genitally mutilated. The publication of the crimes in the Macedonian media led to a revolt among the ethnic Macedonian population. The massacre is attributed to a group of 15 to 20 men. Among other things, Ali Ahmeti is associated with the atrocities committed.
