location
The 3.6 km² protected area extends over a small peninsula in the northeast of Pistolet Bay not far from the northern tip of the Great Northern Peninsula . To the east of the reserve is the parish of Raleigh . The parking area is surrounded on three sides by the icy sea water of Belle Isle Street . The climate is correspondingly harsh.
flora
A special arctic-alpine flora thrives on the limestone soils of the park area, consisting mainly of plants that settled here after the retreat of the glaciers. Over 300 species of plants, 30 of which are rare, are found in the Burnt Cape Ecological Reserve. These include Physaria arctica (arctic bladderpod), Arnica angustifolia (alpine arnica) Askellia pygmaea (dwarf alpine hawksbeard), the cinquefoil Potentilla pulchella (Burnt Cape cinquefoil) and Braya fernaldii (Fernald's Braya).
