Busurungi

Busurungi is a village in the Democratic Republic of the Congo . It is located in the North Kivu Province in the east of the country near Kiuli .

Busurungi is an average of 1,196 meters above sea level.

Busurungi is an elongated settlement surrounded by four wooded hills. Two of the hills are called "Moka" and "Kimomo". The Shario Forest and the small town of Humbo to the south are also in the vicinity .

The area is very prone to earthquakes. An earthquake with a magnitude of six to seven on the Richter scale can be expected approximately every 50 years.

massacre

During an attack by the Forces Démocratiques de Liberation du Rwanda (FDLR) on positions of the Congolese Army (FARDC) in Busurungi on the night of 9-10 May 2009, a massacre took place in which 94 people were killed and around 1,500 houses were set on fire were plugged.

The massacre plays an important role in the war crimes trial against FDLR leader Ignace Murwanashyaka and his vice Straton Musoni , who were convicted by the Stuttgart Higher Regional Court in 2015 .
