Kiuli

Kiuli is a village in the Democratic Republic of the Congo . It is located in the North Kivu province in the east of the country near Busurungi .

The area around Kiuli is characterized by mountain rainforest .

When a massacre by the Forces Démocratiques de Liberation du Rwanda (FDLR) took place on May 10, 2009 in the neighboring village of Busurungi , which resulted in more than a hundred victims, the population of Kiuli fled. Immediately afterwards, the huts, the infirmary, the school and the church were burned down.

The village was not repopulated until January 2011.

The FDLR currently (November 2011) controls the village and the surrounding area.
