Bute Park is a large park in Cardiff , Wales , United Kingdom. The park is named after John Crichton-Stuart, 3rd Marquess of Bute , a nobleman and industrialist who lived with his family in Cardiff Castle , which borders the park .

The park was laid out by Capability Brown , but was not expanded until 1873 by Andrew Pettigrew , the 3rd Marquess' chief landscape architect. The 5th Marquess of Bute handed the park over to the city in 1947, and has owned it ever since.

In the park, through which the River Taff runs, there is a botanical garden, a flower garden, sports facilities and lawns. The Glamorgan County Cricket Club is located in the Sophia Garden area . Most of the areas are meadow areas. Many paths also run through the park.

There are several sculptures within the park. Events have been held in the park regularly since 1981, including Sparks in the Park , an annual nightly fireworks display that attracts around 20,000 visitors. The proceeds from the event will be donated. On June 10, 2010 a concert by the band Florence + the Machine took place.
