Buzzing

Buzzing [ bʌzɪŋ ] ( Engl. Onomatopoeic for "buzz"; also Germanized Buzzen ) is called an engineering exercise in learning brass instruments .

The practice is performed without a mouthpiece , i.e. an attempt is made to hit a tone by simply swinging the lip, without the support of the mouthpiece or even the entire instrument, and to keep it straight. This exercise is relatively demanding because maintaining lip tension without a mouthpiece requires a lot of strength and the right technique. A transition exercise is holding a note on the instrument and slowly removing it. In the modern brass school, buzzing is an indispensable exercise for the classic approach to instruments such as trumpet , trombone , French horn or tuba .
