The Entdecker & Piraten expansion is a supplement to the The Settlers of Catan board game by Klaus Teuber that was published in February 2013 . The extension was published by the Franckh Kosmos publishing house in Stuttgart . It contains several new scenarios. With the expansion, Klaus Teuber reacted to the players' special interest in discovery scenarios. In order to play, you also need the material from the basic game - with the exception of the development cards, cities and special victory point cards. Instead of cities, however, the players build harbor settlements, from where they transport settlers and units to newly discovered areas. Ships are not built one after the other as in the seafaring expansion, but moved across the game board.

Included scenarios

  • Land in sight - introductory scenario to get to know the basic rules
  • The pirate camps - pirate camps must be discovered and defeated
  • Fish for Catan - Fish must be caught and brought to the island of the Catan Council.
  • Spices for Catan - Spice Islands have to be discovered, merchants have to be unloaded there and the spice sacks have to be brought to the island of the Catan Council. In addition, benefits are received that offer faster ship movements, higher chances in the fight against pirates and additional trading opportunities for gold
  • Explorer & Pirate - game with all three missions.

criticism

Some players have criticized the fact that the expansion cannot be combined with the old base game with wooden figures that do not yet contain any frame parts. However, this is possible if the old seafarer extension is available, as it contains enough frame parts (at least for the first four scenarios. Another frame part marked with XX is required for the fifth scenario.) Or frame parts can be ordered separately in the Catan shop.
