The CDF Player is an application for reading documents in Computable Document Format (CDF), a document format for interactive documents that can be created with Mathematica . The CDF Player was developed by Wolfram Research , the maker of Mathematica, and is available for download free of charge. In addition to the free version, there is also a paid Pro version, which has been expanded to include the option of entering and reading data. The free version cannot process CDF files that load dynamic content from the hard drive.

The CDF Player contains the complete run-time library ( runtime library ) of Mathematica. In contrast to static document formats such as the Portable Document Format (PDF) or predefined dynamic documents such as Adobe Flash , this makes it possible to generate the document content dynamically depending on the behavior and input of the user and thereby all algorithms and visualization methods described in Mathematica can be used.

The CDF Player supports browser plug-ins for Internet Explorer , Mozilla Firefox , Google Chrome , Opera and Apple Safari , so that content from CDF documents can be integrated into websites. The player is currently (2016) available in version 10.4.1 for Windows Vista , 7 , 8 , 10 , Mac OS X from version 10.7 "Lion" and Linux from version 2.6 and has a downloadable file size of approx. 832 MB ( Windows) or 1.3 GB (Linux).

On November 16, 2016 Wolfram Research announced the first (still beta) version of the CDF player for iOS. The CDF player, which was officially released for the iPad in the third quarter of 2017, is available free of charge in the app store. It can be upgraded with an add-in purchase so that data can be loaded into running CDF files from various sources. In the free version only CDF files with integrated data can be processed or displayed.
