The CFM Shadow was a two-seat microlight aircraft produced by the British manufacturer Cook Flying Machines , which was produced from the 1980s until the company went bankrupt in 1996.

History and equipment

The wings of this machine are made of aluminum and wood and are reinforced with fiberglass ribs and rigid foam. The rear edge of the wings consists of a composite of plywood and polyester fabric. The rear tail is made of aluminum. The side fins and the rudder are attached under the tail boom. There are additional compartments for up to 5 kilograms of luggage on the wings. The upwardly curved wings prevent the machine from spinning and increase lift during take-off. The cockpit is closed and the landing gear cannot be retracted. Models of this type have also been supplied with floats instead of wheels. The two successor models CFM Shadow C andCFM Shadow D had a longer range and higher top speed than the CFM Shadow B . The individual parts were manufactured in Suffolk and final assembly at Old Sarum Air Base near Salisbury , Wiltshire . Some models with spray , camera company Hasselblad or infrared camera delivered. The cost of the model CFM Shadow A kit, excluding the motor and propeller, was £ 10,750 in 1996 .

Special flight services

A pilot crossed the United States in a CFM Shadow , covering a distance of 6,437 kilometers in just 69 hours. Another notable flight performance with this model was the flight from England to China within a month at an average speed of 110 km / h.
