Chinah

Chinah - Experience China up close (own spelling: CHINAH) is a Chinese year of culture in Germany that took place in 2012 on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the People's Republic of China and the Federal Republic of Germany and with a final concert on January 13, 2013 ended. It is the first of its kind in Germany.

The opening week took place in Berlin from January 30th to February 5th 2012 and was opened with a concert with the Chinese conductor Yu Long , the Chinese Philharmonic and the Beijing Ensemble of the Peking Opera. Piano solo concerts, concerts of Chinese folk and world music, performances of the Kunqu opera, lectures on Chinese classical literature and cultural dialogues were also on the program of the cultural year.

Federal President Christian Wulff and Chinese President Hu Jintao jointly assumed the patronage of the event cycle . In the German media there was a predominantly negative press coverage due to ideological reservations about the People's Republic and its communist leadership. The Year of Culture is the Chinese answer to the three-year series of events “Germany and China - Moving Together” that took place in China. In total, more than 500 events with around 1,500 Chinese artists will take place throughout the year.

In 2009, the bilateral basis for the cooperation was laid by Minister of State Cornelia Pieper at ministerial level.
