from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The International Association for Jewelry, Silverware, Diamonds, Pearls and Stones , or CIBJO for short (from the French : Confédération International de la Bijouterie, Joaillerie, Orfèvrerie des Diamantes, Perles et Pierres or World Jewelry Confederation ), is an international trade organization based in Bern .

The primary goal of this organization, which describes itself as the "United Nations of the jewelry industry", is to standardize and harmonize the declaration provisions, which are established in annual meetings of all members and ratified by the Comité exécutif . As the final instance of the CIBJO, the Assemble des delegues meets every two years.

history

CIBJO emerged in 1961 from the European organization BIBOA , later BIBOAH (founded in 1926). Delegates from ten European countries gave the organization new statutes at a meeting in Pforzheim in order to expand them to a worldwide field of activity.

In 2006 the organization consisted of more than twenty national umbrella organizations and is divided into four independent bodies that deal with the manufacture and wholesale of jewelry and silver goods, as well as the trade and processing of diamonds , precious stones , pearls and the retail of jewelry .

Since the beginning of 2006, the CIBJO has been recognized by the Vienna International Center as a non-governmental organization , where it represents the interests of the World Jewelery Association with regard to improving consumer protection aspects.
