COST ( French for Co opération européenne dans le domaine de la recherche s cientifique et t echnique , European cooperation in the field of science and technology ' ) is a European framework for the coordination of nationally carried out research activities in all areas of science and technology. Since the beginning of 1971, the participation has grown to 35 member countries (the EU member states , Iceland , North Macedonia , Norway , Switzerland , Serbia , Turkey and Israel as a cooperating country) and numerous participants worldwide who work together in a wide variety of transdisciplinary networks.

Basic goals

  • meet the need for international cooperation and transdisciplinary research
  • Effective use of the existing capacities of knowledge, technical equipment and financial resources throughout Europe and creating permanent networks
  • Identify new subject areas and act as a catalyst to initiate further research
  • complement the EU research framework program
  • strengthen the European position in scientific / technical research and development
