Cable sharing
As cable sharing refers to the use of unused wires in a network cable for a second network connection.
Ethernet over twisted pair cable uses only four of the eight wires up to a speed of 10 or 100 Mbit / s , but usually all eight wires are connected to the 8P8C socket. With existing cabling that is not operated at more than 100 Mbit / s, if there is a lack of ports, the unused wires (wire pairs 1 and 4) of a cable from a second device (PC, switch, etc.) can be used with the help of an adapter become.
Of course, cable sharing can also be deliberately planned for network cabling; However, this is not recommended, as the wire coding on the second device deviates from the standard, which can lead to compatibility problems later when upgrading / changing - Gigabit Ethernet (1000BASE-T) requires all eight wires.
