The Cabo Girão ( Portuguese Cape of Reversal ) is a steep cliff in the south of Madeira near the town of Câmara de Lobos . Its height is given as 560 to 589 m, making it one of the highest steep cliffs in the European Union.

There are terraced fields below the cliff and on the lower part of the slope .

In the past, the fields at the foot of the cliff could only be reached by boat, since August 2003 there has been a cable car on the slope, which was originally built to make field work easier for the farmers. The cable car is located a few kilometers east in the Rancho district.

Cabo Girão is popular with tourists as a lookout point with a glass floor platform and a starting point for paragliders .
