The Caetra was an Iberian round shield .
description
This sign had a diameter of 50 to 70 cm and was made of wood that was covered with leather. It had a shield boss made of bronze and a handle on the inside. The Caetra v. a. of the lightly armed; not necessarily in an open battle, but often against partisans in their own country.
history
The existence of this shield is documented until the 5th century BC. The Caetra originated in the southwest of the Iberian Peninsula and spread over the whole country in ancient times . It was also a popular shield in ancient times in North Africa and Britain. Warriors armed with Caetra shields also fought as mercenaries on Hannibal's side in the Second Punic War .
