Café Borsberg
The Café Borsberg was a café in the Striesen district of Dresden . The café building on Borsbergstrasse 31–33, which still exists today, is a listed building.
history
The Café Borsberg opened on September 1, 1959. The name had previously been determined in a competition among the population of Dresden. Over the years the café has been transformed into a residential area restaurant. Often guests had to wait due to overcrowding and were seated.
The café, which was restored at the end of the 1980s, was closed at the turn of the 1990s. Today (2010) there is a drugstore in the building as well as an ice cream parlor called “Café Borsberg” nearby.
The building
The Café Borsberg building was built in the course of the rebuilding of Borsbergstrasse in the 1950s. It is a single-storey building in front of Borsbergstrasse 29c. It was known for its technical innovations, for example for the large window panes that could be lowered into the floor, making the veranda and café a spatial unit. Magdalena Kreßner's sculpture "Dancer Couple" , which shows two ballet dancers, was set up on the forecourt of the café .
