The place Cala Gonone is located in the middle of the east coast of Sardinia on the Gulf of Orosei . The district belongs to the municipality of Dorgali .

The former fishing village has now become a pure holiday resort, a seaside resort with a beach and grottos. As practically everywhere in Sardinia , there are only a few higher houses. The majority of the holiday homes consist of flat bungalows that adapt to the landscape.

In addition to the turbulent holiday and bathing activities, a jazz festival has been taking place in the summer for several years. The beaches here are not particularly wide and, in contrast to the rest of the east coast, they are rough.

About 4 km south of Cala Gonone the road ends above Cala Fuili, a last bathing bay that can still be reached without a boat. The rest of the bay from Orosei down to Santa Maria Navarrese is steep coast. Nearby is the Grotta del Bue Marino .

Directions

You can reach Cala Gonone from the winding road SS125 near Dorgali through a tunnel - as everywhere in the area, the coast and the main road are separated by a mountain range in the north-south direction. The large new tunnel has now been completed. The old small, round tunnel is still available as a passage for pedestrians and cyclists.

Behind the tunnel, a several kilometers long panoramic road leads down to the coast to Cala Gonone.
