Calf of Man or yn Cholloo in the Manx language is an island less than 500 meters southwest of the Isle of Man , and separated from it by Calf Sound and the tiny rocky island of Kitterland . About a kilometer southwest of Calf of Man is the Chicken Rock , the southernmost area of the Isle of Man. The island belongs as well as the neighboring rock to the municipality ( parish ) Rushen .
The island is 2.5 km² and counted two inhabitants in the last census of 2006. These are employees of the ornithological station. The entire island is a bird sanctuary . There are several lighthouses on the island, but not all of them are in operation.
A cross slab , which probably shows Longinus sticking a lance in the side of the crucified Christ , comes from the Calf of Man.
