Caligari trueSpace

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Caligari trueSpace is a 3D graphics software for the creation of three-dimensional, photo-realistic objects and characters, which can also be animated. The latest version of Caligari trueSpace is 7.61 B8 and is based on DirectX 9 .

The program was first developed for the Amiga in the mid-1980s , where it was one of the first of its kind, and only later ported to Windows , which is the only platform for trueSpace today. For example, Boolean operators , procedural models and NURBS are supported , and a particle system is also included. The part of the program called "Collaboration Server" enables several users to work on a project at the same time. A number of chargeable plug-ins are available to expand the functions of the main program, for example integration in Flash .

trueSpace has so far been used, among other things, for complex technical, medical and architectural motifs; it has been regularly represented at SIGGRAPH , one of the most famous congresses for computer graphics , since the 1990s .

Version 7 was two programs in one. The old version 6.6 was built into the new architecture of version 7 as a large plug-in. As a result, there was a dichotomy between modeler and workspace. The modeler was the old program in version 6.6. The workspace was the new trueSpace software architecture. And the whole thing was synchronized over a bridge.

The software manufacturer Caligari was taken over by Microsoft at the beginning of 2008 in order to use trueSpace's technology for its own Virtual Earth program . With version 7.6 Caligari trueSpace was released as freeware.

On May 19, 2009, founder and chief developer Roman Ormandy announced Microsoft's decision to reduce the financing of trueSpace on May 22 and probably to discontinue it entirely. In the meantime (October 2012) the manufacturer's website is no longer available.

The trueSpace development has now been officially discontinued by Microsoft. However, after the official end on the English-language community site United 3D Artists, the program was further developed by some fans at a low level. There are unofficial patches to further improve the program. And plugins are still being developed for it. See web links.

After 2010, many of the talented trueSpace developers contributed to the development of the free Microsoft application 3D Builder for the Windows Store. There are many similarities between 3D Builder and the original TrueSpace product.
