Called Subscriber Identification

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Called Subscriber Identification ( CSID ) is a character string used to identify the recipient of a fax . After receiving a fax, the CSID is sent to the sending device and is usually shown there on a display. With the help of the CSID it is possible to see afterwards that the fax was sent to the correct recipient. Usually the string is a combination of the fax or telephone number and the name of the sender. Often the CSID is identical to the Transmitting Subscriber Identification (TSID).

The CSID can already be programmed into a fax machine or it can be specified using fax software. Even if the CSID was originally intended to make a fax machine clearly identifiable, it can also be used for other purposes, such as the automatic routing of connections. In this way it is possible, for example, to forward faxes to different network nodes or e-mail addresses.
