As Caller (of English. Call = call) is the professional darts sport the referee called, whose main task is to inform the public and the recorder using the number of thrown by a player points. The caller also provides information on whether a player can achieve a checkout with his current number of points and thus end the leg. The caller does not get the thrown number from an assistant, but is responsible for it himself and is therefore responsible for the entire game. If a caller makes a mistake, for example if he does not see that the dart was not thrown into a double field, this falsifies the game result. Therefore, the callers become very trusted and they are highly rewarded for their work, so that callers employed by the PDC carry out their profession as the main source of income.

As the referee, the caller is also responsible for controlling the game. Should there be hostilities between the players or between the players and the audience, the caller must intervene in an emergency or keep the audience calm in important game situations so that the players can concentrate.

The most famous caller in darts at the moment is the Englishman Russ Bray .
