St. Andrew's House on Calton Hill

The Calton Hill in Edinburgh is the most striking elevation of the city with a height of 103 meters. It's at the east end of Princes Street.

On Calton Hill are the National Monument (an unfinished Parthenon replica by William Henry Playfair ), the Nelson Monument , the Dugald Stewart Monument , the Playfair Monument , the Parliament Cairn , the Old Observatory House and the City Observatory . The Portuguese cannon has been on the hill since 1887 .

Also on Calton Hill is St. Andrew's House , the seat of the Office of the First Minister of Scotland and the Scottish Government since 1999 . St. Andrew's House was built in the 1930s on the ruins of the former prison Calton jail built.
