PMD is the acronym under which the US rapper and hip-hop - Producer Parrish Smith (* 13. May 1968 in Brentwood , New York his solo works published). He is a representative of the East Coast hip-hop and hardcore rap styles . Together with Erick Sermon , he became known as one half of the EPMD duo .

biography

Smith grew up in Brentwood on Long Iceland and began his music career as a DJ for an on Tommy Boy released single of the rock Squad . In 1987 he founded the duo EPMD together with Erick Sermon. After four albums together , Smith began a solo career in 1992.

For this he deleted the "E" from the group's name, which stands for "Erick" and used the acronym PMD, which means "Parrish Making Dollars". His first single was I Saw It Cummin ' in 1994 , which stayed in the back positions of the Billboard Hot 100 for a few weeks . The corresponding long player Shade Business was also listed on the US sales list for a short time .

PMD's second album, Business Is Business, followed in 1996 . It had less commercial success than its predecessor, ranking at number 180 on the Billboard 200 for just one week.

As a result, Smith reunited with Erick Sermon in 1997 and published two more works as EPMD. In 1999, the duo separated again and in 2003 PMD released another solo album, The Awakening . It remained without chart placements.

From 2006 Smith appeared again regularly with Sermon and took with him on a seventh EPMD long player. Still, Smith continued to work outside of the duo. In 2013 the album Welcome to the Goondox was released as a result of this , which PMD released together with the Snowgoons and Sean Strange. Business Mentality followed in 2017 . The Snowgoons worked on it again as producers.
