Camfranglais

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Camfranglais is a Cameroonian variant of the French language .

In the urban centers of Cameroon it competes as a lingua franca with the pidgin called Kamtok , which is formed on the basis of English. Camfranglais came up in the 1970s and is particularly popular with young people, which is partly due to the fact that many regionally popular musicians use this language. In addition to the official languages, there are over 250 languages in Cameroon, and there is a constant mix of official languages and regional languages. In Camfranglais, the French grammar is not significantly changed, so that native French speakers from other countries can understand Camfranglais if they learn a few words from other languages. Although the word creation suggests that it is a synthesis of French and English, only a few words are borrowed from English or Kamtok .
