Campbell House (Port Charlotte)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Campbell House is a residential building in the center of the Scottish town of Port Charlotte on the Hebridean island of Islay . It is the end house on the north side of Lower School Street towards Shore Street . On August 28, 1980, Campbell House was added to the Scottish List of Monuments in Category C. No house numbers were assigned in this street, which is why the house name Campbell is used.

description

The exact date of construction of the building is not recorded, which is why only the late 19th century can be given as the construction period. The house is right on the road and connected to the neighboring Woodrow and Ross House to the west . It is built in the traditional way. The entrance door is on the side of a closed porch that points in the middle of the front towards the street. This is equipped with a lattice window and closes with a gable roof . Five lattice windows on two floors symmetrically surround this porch. A slate-covered gable roof is placed on top of the building. Further windows are let into the freestanding east side, some of which point to the nearby coast of Loch Indaal Bay , on which Port Charlotte is located. The facades are plastered using the traditional Harling technique.
