The Canada Revenue Agency ( CRA , English ) or Agence du revenu du Canada ( ARC , French ) is a federal agency that administers taxes for the government of Canada and for most of the country's provinces and territories . She oversees international trade legislation , various social and economic programs, charity registration, and tax credit programs.

Originally the agency was called Canada Customs and Revenue Agency (CCRA) until the federal government reorganized in December 2003. At that time it decided to continue the organization of customs revenue and the administration of taxes in separate organizations. Since then, the Canada Border Services Agency has been part of Canada's public safety. The CCRA was only founded in November 1999 as the Department of National Revenue . So it didn't last very long.

criticism

The Canada Revenue Agency gives taxpayers long payment deadlines. So long that many taxpayers visit different tax offices and pick the best deal. In Canada one speaks of “tax shopping”.
