Hirakud is a place in the Indian state of Odisha with about 30,000 inhabitants (as of 2011).

It is located in the administrative district of Sambalpur 15 km from the center of the district capital Sambalpur removed.

Hirakud is known for the Hirakud dam built there on the Mahanadi River and as an industrial settlement , especially for the Hindalco company .

The city had the status of a Notified Area Council before they were incorporated into the newly established Municipal Corporation Sambalpur on November 21, 2014 together with Burla .
