Hindalco Industries Ltd. is an Indian aluminum and copper manufacturer . The Mumbai- based company was founded in 1958 and is part of the Aditya Birla Group of Indian billionaire Kumar Mangalam Birla .
Hindalco operates bauxite mines in Jharkhand , Chhattisgarh , Maharashtra and Orissa , which supply the raw material for the aluminum smelters in Belgaum , Muri and Renukoot . In Dahej ( Gujarat ), Hindalco owns a copper smelter with an attached port terminal ( ).
On May 15, 2007, Hindalco acquired the Canadian company Novelis for 6 billion US dollars, making it the world's largest manufacturer of rolled aluminum.
