Standard car (Deutsche Reichsbahn)

Shortly after the founding of the Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft , the committee for the standardization of the types of passenger and baggage cars set some types of car as future standard in order to limit the existing variety (91 types in over 200 versions) of passenger cars taken over from the Länderbahnen . The first vehicles to be defined were a two-axle compartment car , a two-axle through car and a four-axle express train car for main lines and a lighter version for secondary lines .

The designation of the standard wagons consisted of the actual generic symbol , followed by a hyphen followed by the year of the first year of construction (example: B4i-29), the former regional railway wagons received an abbreviation made up of the country abbreviation and year, but without a hyphen (example: C3i Pr 05) .
