State Bank of India in Israel

The State Bank of India ( SBI ) is the largest bank in India with 100 million customers and almost 10,000 branches (as of 2008) . It is listed in the BSE Sensex share index.

Shares in the predecessor company Bank of Bengal from 1876

In 1806 the Bank of Calcutta was founded and later renamed the Bank of Bengal . This merged in 1921 with the Bank of Madras and the Bank of Bombay to form the Imperial Bank of India . The bank was nationalized in 1955, when the Reserve Bank of India took over 60 percent of the shares, and transformed into the State Bank of India .

Associated Banks

In addition to the SBI, there are six other associated banks that belong to the SBI. They all use "State Bank of" in their company name and add the regional headquarters to the company name. These seven associated banks originally belonged to Indian princely states and were nationalized in 1959 . All of these seven banks share the same blue keyhole company logo.
