The Axis Bank is an Indian bank , which offers a wide range of financial products. The bank is headquartered in Mumbai ( Maharashtra ). It has 4,050 branches, 11,801 ATMs and 4,917 money recyclers distributed across the country as of March 31, 2019, as well as nine international branches. The bank employs over 59,600 people and had a market capitalization of approximately $ 29 billion (2018). It is part of Forbes Global 2000 . As its main field of activity, the bank sells financial services to large, small, medium-sized and retail companies.
Axis Bank shares are listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange and the National Stock Exchange of India .
history
The bank was established in December 1993 as UTI Bank with its registered office in Ahmedabad and its headquarters in Mumbai. UTI Bank started operations in 1993 after the Indian government approved the creation of new private banks. The bank was jointly established in 1993 by the Trust of India (UTI-I) Unit , Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), General Insurance Corporation , National Insurance Company , New India Assurance Company , Oriental Insurance and United India Insurance Company founded. The first branch was inaugurated on April 2, 1994 in Ahmedabad by the then Indian Finance Minister Manmohan Singh .
UTI Bank opened its first foreign branch in Singapore in 2006 .
In 2007 the bank changed its name from UTI Bank to Axis Bank.
