The church of Santi Gervasio e Protasio is located in the municipality of Ceto belonging fraction Nadro, in the middle of Valcamonica in the province of Brescia .

description

The researcher Alessandro Sina believes that it was founded by the monks of Tours , who were present in the Camonica Valley in the 8th century. It is oriented in an east-west direction, with the entrance to the west.

The church was rebuilt in the 16th century after the visit of Charles Borromeo in the Camonica Valley: it was ordered to close the south door of the church, to close the entrance of the church with gates, to divide the pews between men and women and the chapel of San Rocco , which was under the care of the Nadro Disciplini , to remodel and remove all tombs in the sacristy . The bell tower, which is slightly inclined today, is dated 1611.

This also reminds us:

“Palcum cum Ecclesia sit hominum capax tollatur (...) eo qui homines ex eo proiiciunt nives, saxa et sputa mulieribus."

"Since the church is able enough to take the men, the veranda should be removed (...) because the men throw snow, stones and spit at the women"

- Giovanni Gregorini : Memorie sulla Visita Apostolica di San Carlo alla Plebania di Cemmo, Brescia, 1869

In the church there is a crucifixion by Grazio Cossali , signed and dated 1615.

On May 19, 1683, work began on the extension in its current form. As can be seen in a document from "Vicinia" , the work was finished on April 9, 1691. In 1895 there was a devastating fire that devastated the structure. The following year the painter Antonio Guadagnini from Esine was commissioned to decorate the parish church with frescoes.
