The valley Valcamonica (also Val Camonica , Rhaeto-Romanic Val Chamuongia ? / I ) is a 70 kilometer long valley in Lombardy in the province of Brescia between the Tonale pass and Lake Iseo . The river Oglio flows through it. The largest place is Darfo Boario Terme . Valcamonica is one of the three main valleys ( Tre Valli ) of the province, the other two being Val Trompia and Val Sabbia . Audio file / audio sample

The name is derived from the Camunni (today Camunen), the Iron Age population who lived in the 1st century BC. Lived in the valley. The numerous rock carvings of Valcamonica have been part of the oldest UNESCO World Heritage in Italy since 1979 . They show everyday motifs, geometric patterns and abstract shapes.
