Pisogne is a municipality in the Italian province of Brescia in Lombardy . The place has 7904 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) and is 198 m. ü. M.

geography

The community is located at the northeast end of Lake Iseo , where the Valcamonica flows into the lake. It belongs to the mountain community ( Comunità montana ) Sebino Bresciano. After Iseo in the south on the eastern shore of the lake it is about 24 km, the provincial capital Brescia is about 44 km south.

Fractions (districts) of the municipality are Fraine, Gratacasolo, Grignaghe, Sommo, Palot, Sonvico, Siniga, Toline, Pontasio and Passabocche .

The neighboring municipalities are Artogne , Castro ( BG ), Costa Volpino (BG), Lovere (BG), Marone , Pezzaze , Pian Camuno , Riva di Solto (BG), Solto Collina (BG), Tavernole sul Mella and Zone .

history

The area has been inhabited since prehistoric times. In the Middle Ages, Pisogne was an important trading center between the Camonica Valley and Lake Iseo. In the 12th century the place was destroyed, rebuilt and fortified with walls and towers. The current cityscape of the center dates mainly from the 17th century, and is characterized by the construction of arcades and palaces. Pisogne has been connected to the railway network since 1907.

• The church of Santa Maria della Neve with frescoes by Girolamo Romanino is worth seeing . They were created between 1532 and 1534 and depict the suffering of Jesus . The church of Santa Maria in Silvis also contains frescoes from the late 15th century, including a representation of the dance of death .
