Calcinato is a northern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 13,140 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Brescia in Lombardy . The municipality is located about 17 kilometers southeast of Brescia on the eastern bank of the Chiese . The lake is located about 9 kilometers northeast of Calcinato. The municipality borders directly on the province of Mantua .

history

A Roman road ran through the area in ancient times. In the Middle Ages the area belonged to the Benedictine Abbey of Nonantola (from 813). In 1426 Calcinato came to the Republic of Venice . In 1706 the Battle of Calcinato took place here as part of the War of the Spanish Succession .

Calcinato is located south of the A4 autostrada from Turin to Trieste. However, there is no connection. The station of Ponte San Marco and Calcinato is on the Milan - Venice railway line , in the Brescia- Verona section . This is located in Ponte San Marco, a district of Calcinatos. Strada Statale 11 Padana Superiore also runs north of Ponte San Marco .

economy

In 1949 Paolo Cavagna founded a family metalworking company in the village, which soon specialized in the manufacture of gas valves. Today the headquarters of the Cavagna Group , a multinational manufacturer of gas fittings, are located here.
