Cazzago San Martino is a northern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 10,971 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Brescia in Lombardy . The municipality is located about 16 kilometers west-northwest of Brescia . Lake Iseo is about 8 kilometers north .
history
For the year 1050 there is evidence of a fortification that was under the rule of the Bishop of Brescia . In 1312 this was rebuilt in the course of the conflict with the participation of the Guelfs and Ghibellini. From 1385 the municipality or today's municipality was part of the Republic of Venice . In the course of the reorganization of the municipalities, the current districts were combined in 1927 by the fascist regime to form the municipality of Cazzago San Martino.
Economy and Transport
Cazzago San Martino is located in the Franciacorta wine-growing region . In some districts, the wine, which is protected under the designation of origin, is grown. There are also numerous crops with maize. South of the municipality, the A4 Autostrada runs from Turin to Venice and Trieste .
The main town has a railway connection on the Rovato – Bornato railway line , which is served by regional trains. Next to the districts Bornato and Calino is the Bornato-Calino train station , where the line coming from Rovato joins the Brescia – Iseo – Edolo line .
