Lavenone

Lavenone is a northern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 515 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in Val Sabbia in the province of Brescia in Lombardy . The municipality is located about 27.5 kilometers north-northeast of Brescia on the Chiese in the Valle Sabbia and belongs to the Comunità montana della Valle Sabbia . Lake Idro is about 1.5 kilometers northeast .

history

Lavenone is one of the few villages in the area that was freely accessible without the protection of a castle. On the border with Trentino, it had been subordinate to the Counts of Lodrone for centuries and had to endure the military history of the French, Germans and Piedmontese. In earlier times Laverone was known for its blacksmithing, until the blacksmiths went abroad, to Venice, Germany, Denmark, Croatia, Milan and Serbia. In the 18th century the site was one of the most modern steel centers in the province of Brescia, until on September 15, 1882, a terrible flood of the Chiese destroyed everything and took away any chance for reconstruction. Today some businesses are based in the community, although most of the working residents commute to the larger towns in the region.

politics

Mayor of the municipality is Claudio Zambelli, Lista Civica . He was re-elected on May 25, 2014.

traffic

The former Strada Statale 237 del Caffaro (today the provincial road SPBS 237) leads through the municipality from Brescia to Calavino .

Attractions

The place has two sights: the parish church of San Bartolomeo (the saint is also the patron saint of the place) and the Santuario della Madonna delle Neve. Construction of today's parish church began in 1778, but the inauguration did not take place until September 6, 1840. Inside there are five altars from the previous church, works by the woodcarvers Giovanni Pialorsi and Girolamo Bonomi from 1634 to 1660.

The bridge over the Abbioccolo in the east of the village is of Roman origin.
