Paratico is a municipality with about 4500 inhabitants in the province of Brescia ( Lombardy region ) on the south bank of Lake Iseo .

The Oglio flows through Paratico . The neighboring communities of the place are Adro , Capriolo , Credaro , Iseo , Sarnico and Villongo . Paratico belongs to the Franciacorta wine-growing region and is the end point of the Palazzolo – Paratico railway line . From 1907 to 1999 there was a railway ferry connection from Paratico for goods traffic to the Lucchini Sidermeccanica steelworks in Lovere .

The place was first mentioned in a document in 975 when it was donated. The Lantieri castle ruins from the 13th / 14th centuries belong to Paratico . Century, strategically located on a hill above the paths that went towards the plain. It was built and inhabited by the Lantieri family, but was no longer of use from 1500 and was left to decay. According to an unproven legend, Dante Alighieri stayed at the castle in 1311 and was inspired there to depict the mountain of the Purgatory of his Divine Comedy .
