Franciacorta is a still young Italian wine-growing region in Lombardy with DOC status ( Denominazione di origine controllata ) since 1967. In 1995, the wines were given the title “controlled and guaranteed designation of origin ” ( Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita - DOCG), the appellation was last modified on March 7, 2014.

Despite its good location on the mineral soils of the foothills of the Alps and the mild climate near Lake Iseo, Franciacorta wine was only of local importance. It was not until the 1960s that the Berlucchi winery presented the first professionally produced sparkling wines. The demand for the style of a champagne produced Spumante grew rapidly and the region brought a boom.

Still wines

Since the mid-1980s, French style still wines have been increasingly marketed again. Since the grape varieties or the cellar methods do not match the DOC approvals, some of the best wines are sold as table wine (Vino da Tavola) in order to be more free in the choice of the basic material and the means.

Well-known producers are Ca 'del Bosco and Bellavista , both of which are based in the municipality of Erbusco , and Castello Bonomi in Coccaglio .
