Route to Edolo

The Cremona – Soresina – Soncino – Rovato – Bornato – Iseo railway is a standard-gauge railway line in Italy operated by the Società Nazionale Ferrovie e Tramvie (SNFT) . The line connected four other rail lines. Most of the route has been discontinued and dismantled. The section Rovato – Bornato – Iseo was reactivated in 2009.

history

The line was opened in several sections between 1911 and 1932.

The first section connects Rovato to Iseo on the main line between Milan and Venice. Before Iseo , near Bornato, this section joins the SNFT line from Brescia to Edolo, which was opened in this area in 1885.

This was followed by the opening of the branch line from Soresina on the Treviglio – Cremona to Soncino line. Later the connecting line from the Cremona railway junction to Soresina was added. The extension of the branch line to Soncino to Rovato meant that the route could be used continuously.

route date

Soresina - Soncino November 24, 1914
Cremona - Soresina January 2, 1926
Soncino-Rovato October 28, 1932

During the Second World War , the Oglio bridge near Soncino was blown up. It was reopened in 1950.

The Cremona – Soresina – Soncino – Rovato section was shut down and dismantled in 1956 due to financial problems of the SNFT. In 1975 the remaining passenger traffic from Rovato to Bornato and Iseo was stopped. This section was reactivated in 2009. As of December 9, 2018, the service was discontinued and replaced by a bus.
