Canon Ixus
The name IXUS led the Japanese company Canon 1996 as their name APS - compact cameras one. Since 2000 , this name has also been used as Canon Digital IXUS for a series of very compact digital cameras . In the USA and Canada these IXUS models are marketed under the names Elph (APS) and PowerShot Digital Elph (digital), in Japan under the label Ixy . The APS SLR cameras from Canon were called EOS IX . The IXUS model series is characterized by its compact construction and unusual design. At the same time, there is a second product group in Europe called PowerShot , which until the end of 2008 was aimed more at performance-conscious users.

CHDK firmware attachment
Resourceful programmers succeeded in significantly expanding the functionality of the Ixus cameras by analyzing the firmware. This modification is known as CHDK (Canon Hack Development Kit) and, in addition to saving image sensor content in RAW file format, allows all camera-specific settings to be changed up to the limits specified by the internal hardware platform. By embedding the script languages BASIC and Lua , it is also possible to create your own processes. CHDK is very popular for time lapse photography , stereo photography, and amateur aerial photography . CHDK is stored as a folder structure on the SD card and is only loaded into the volatile memory ( RAM ) of the device when the camera is switched on ; the original firmware remains unchanged.
