Canopus (company)

Canopus KK ( Japanese カ ノ ー プ ス 株式会社 , Kanōpusu Kabushiki kaisha ) was a manufacturer of hardware and software for capturing and non-linear editing of videos .

The company was founded in 1983 in Kobe (Japan) as Canopus Denshi KK ( カ ノ ー プ ス 電子 株式会社 ) and renamed Canopus in 1992. The company operated worldwide with offices in Australia, China, Germany, Great Britain and the USA. It is named after the star Canopus .

At the beginning of 2006 the company was taken over by Thomson Grass Valley Broadcast & Networking .
