Cantilène

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A cantilène ( French "Singsang", possibly from Italian cantilena "Singerei" to Latin cantilena ) is a French sung poem that was cultivated in the High Middle Ages and was used to worship saints . A well-known example is the Cantilène de Sainte Eulalie , written anonymously around 880 .

The existence of the epic- lyric heroic song of the same name as the forerunner of the chanson de geste is disputed today.
