The Canyon Lake is a reservoir in the US state of Arizona . It is one of four lakes in a chain of lakes created by the damming of the Salt River . The reservoir is dammed by the Mormon Flat Dam and serves to supply the greater Phoenix area with drinking water and electricity from hydropower . It is also an important recreational area for water sports and fishing . It is located in the Tonto National Forest .
