Carl Goetze (piano factory)
The Carl Goetze piano factory in Saint Petersburg existed between 1866 and 1895 until it was liquidated. The company was re-established in 1905 in Berlin - Lichtenfelde until it was taken over by Deutsche Piano Werke in 1928.
Russian sources state that it was founded in 1880. It also said: They built very massive, but not entirely satisfactory instruments that could not compete with other Russian and foreign makes. Goetzes instruments had ringing basses, muffled highs and a tight keyboard. By 1928, 20263 pianos and grand pianos were produced in Saint Petersburg and Berlin. From 1905 the factory changed its name to a limited partnership : "Goetze & Co KG". From 1919 until 1929 Richard Goetze took over the management of the factory. In 1929, several companies, including Richard Goetze's, merged to form "Deutsche Piano-Werke AG".
