Carlos Balbi

Carlos Balbi (born November 10, 1968 in Montevideo , Uruguay ) is a Uruguayan pianist .

Balbi learned to play the piano with Omar Naranjo and then attended the Municipal School for Music in Montevideo, where he studied music history and harmony. Sigfried Mauser , Darío de Rosa and Wolfgang Laufer were among his teachers . He also took lessons from Eduardo Gilardoni , especially in relation to the newer South American and especially Uruguayan music of the 20th century. In 1991 he was placed in the first category in the competition to select Uruguay's young musicians. In the Escuela Universitaria de Música aligned Cluzeau Mortet contest to interpretations of works by national artists he received the 1992 second prize. Balbi played as a soloist in the SODRE symphony orchestra and also appeared in the chamber music cycles organized by the Uruguayan Ministry of Education and SODRE . In 2001 he was invited to play at the Festival of Ibero-American Culture in Moscow . In the same year and in 2002 he toured several Australian cities and presented Latin American music of the 20th century. He also founded a duet with the flautist Christobel Moore.
